Alexander Zverev vs Marin Cilic – Tennis Betting Tips

Alexander Zverev of Germany will play against Marin Cilic of Croatia for his opening match at the 2017 Nitto ATP Finals in the O2 Arena in London. The 20 year old Zverev also qualified for the 2017 Next Generation ATP Finals in Milan (this is the season ending tournament for the best men’s singles players who are 21 years old and younger), but he instead opted to compete to the ATP Finals in the UK. He’s included in group B of this event in which he’ll play against Federer, Sock and Cilic before he could advance to the next round.

Alexander Zverev

This will be Zverev’s fifth meeting with Cilic. He leads his series with the 29 year old Croatian with three wins and only one loss in their past four meetings. Zverev lost their first meeting at the quarterfinals of the Citi Open in Washington two years ago. However, he was able to win all of their past three meetings after that. He won both of his two meetings against Cilic last year in Montpellier and Shanghai. This year, he played for the fourth time against Cilic in Madrid. He was able to beat the Croatian again after three sets 6-7(3) 6-3 6-4.

Zverev had had a very impressive season this year. He has won five of the six final appearances he had this season. He won the titles in Montpellier, Munich, Rome, Washington and at the Rogers Cup in Vancouver. The only final he lost was at Halle in which he played against Roger Federer. He was also unlucky in the Grand Slam events for this year. The best result he had was reaching the fourth round in Wimbledon before losing to Milos Raonic. Zverev was even eliminated in the first round at the French Open by Fernando Verdasco. But despite these setbacks, he was still able to earn enough points to finish as world No.3 at the end of the year. This is very impressive for a 20 year old player like Zverev. Let’s see how he fares against the other best singles players for this year.

Marin Cilic

29 year old Marin Cilic of Croatia is definitely way ahead of Zverev in terms of experience and achievements in this sport. He won the US Open on 2014 and reached the final at Wimbledon this year. Unfortunately he wasn’t able to put up against Federer in the Wimbledon final and lost in straight sets. Nevertheless, Cilic still has a very remarkable season this year. Aside from Wimbledon, he has two other final appearances for this season. He won his first final for this season in Istanbul against Raonic. Before Wimbledon, he also reached the final in Queen’s, but lost to Feliciano Lopez.

Our Predictions

I’ll back Marin Cilic of Croatia on this match. Cilic trails his series with Zverev with just one win and three losses, but I think he has a big chance to win their upcoming meeting on this event. He has better results compared to Zverev in their past two tournaments. He reached the semis in Basel and the last eight in Paris before going to this tournament. Zverev on the other hand only reached the quarterfinals in Vienna and was even in eliminated in the first round in Paris before this event.
