Caroline Garcia vs Simona Halep – Tennis Betting Tips

Caroline Garcia of France will play against world No.2 Simona Halep of Romania on the quarterfinals of the Rogers Cup in Toronto, Canada. This will only be the second meeting between these two players. They first played against each other last year in Sydney. Halep won that match in three sets 6-4 2-6 6-1. Will she win again over Garcia this time?

Caroline Garcia

23 year old Caroline Garcia of France is currently ranked No.21 in the world. Last month, she reached her highest position in the rankings at No.19. She hasn’t reached any final yet this year, but based on her place in the world ranking table we can say this season is one of the best ever in her career. Garcia has already had four semifinals appearances this year. She reached the semis in Monterrey, Strasbourg, Mallorca and Bastad. Garcia also had her best finishes at the French Open and Wimbledon. She reached the quarterfinals at Roland Garros and the fourth round in SW19.

Garcia had a slow start on this tournament and it took her three sets to beat Sorana Cirstea in the first round. But after this, everything went well for Garcia. She beat both of her American opponents on the next two rounds in straight sets. She beat Varvara Lepchenko 6-1 6-4 and Cici Bellis 6-4 6-2. If she beats Halep here she’ll have her fifth semifinal appearance for this year.

Simona Halep

Halep became world No.2 again last month after her campaign at Wimbledon. She first held this position three years ago in 2014. In a recent interview, Halep said her goal is to be world No.1 before the end of this year. She has been within striking distance from the top spot for many months now. She also had wasted two chances of winning this position. The first was in the final of the French Open where she lost to Jelena Ostapenko and second was in Wimbledon where she lost to Johanna Konta in the quarterfinals. If she had won the title in Roland Garros or advanced up to the semis in Wimbledon, she would have been world No.1.

But Halep still has a big chance to take the top spot from Karolina Pliskova. She’s only behind by less than a thousand points from the Czech player. The winner of this event in Toronto will get 900 points. She won the title here last year and based on the way she’s performing, it looks like she has a good chance of winning it again. After this the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati will take place. The winner of that event will also take a thousand points. Given Simona’s fine form right now, it’s definitely highly possible for her to be world No.1 even before the US Open.

Our Predictions

I’ll back Simona Halep on this match. I’m sure she’ll win again over Caroline Garcia because she’s playing excellent tennis again right now. She even beat another top 20 player Barbora Strycova in the quarterfinals in less than an hour. She played so well and only dropped one game in the entire match to win 6-1 6-0.
