Coco Vandeweghe vs Julia Goerges – Tennis Betting Tips

Coco Vandeweghe of the US will be up against Julia Goerges of Germany on the final of the Hengqin Life WTA Elite Trophy tournament in Zhuhai, China. This will be the fifth meeting of these two players. Their series is tied at two wins a piece. Vandeweghe won her last meeting with Goerges which took place early this year. They met during the Fed Cup tie between the US and Germany. However, she was only able to win it after Goerges was forced to retire because of an injury during the second set of their match. Goerges is now in top physical condition. She has been playing exceptionally well here in Zhuhai. Could Vandeweghe get pass through her in the final?

Coco Vandeweghe

Vandeweghe put on a very impressive performance in her semifinal match against Australia’s Ashleigh Barty to reach the final of the WTA Elite Trophy tournament in Zhuhai. She won their match in straight sets 6-3 6-3. Barty also played well but it simply wasn’t enough to stop the American from closing their match after just an hour and two minutes of play. With this, Vandeweghe who is currently ranked No.12 in the world will move up to No.10 next week no matter what happens on the final.

This will be the fifth time that Vandeweghe will play against Goerges in her career. She won two of her past four meetings with the German. She won against Goerges in their most recent meeting which happened just last February. However, she only won that match after Goerges retired during the second set because of an injury. Before that meeting, Goerges won their last two meetings in 2013 and 2015. The only time when she really won against the German was during their first meeting in Tokyo way back in 2010. She won against Goerges there 6-3 6-0.

Julia Goerges

Goerges was able to extend her winning streak to eight after she easily dispatched Anastasija Sevastova in their semifinal match. She won against the Latvian 6-3 6-3 in a match which lasted only an hour and 11 minutes. With this, she was also able to get back against Sevastova who defeated her in their first meeting this year in the final at Mallorca.

This will be the fifth final for Goerges this year. She lost all of her first three final appearances in Mallorca, Bucharest and Washington. But in her fourth final in Moscow just a couple of weeks ago, she finally was able to win the title. She blasted Daria Kasatkina in the final there 6-1 6-2 to win her first title after six years. Could she also do the same to Vandeweghe here?

Our Predictions

For me, this match between Vandeweghe and Goerges will be very tight considering the form of these two players. Both of them also easily eliminated their respective opponents in the semis. I think there’s a high possibility that this match will be long and it might even go on to three sets. I’ll go with the ‘over 22’ total games market here.
