Jelena Ostapenko vs Simona Halep – Tennis Betting Tips

Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia advanced to the semifinals of the China Open in Beijing after she won against Sorana Cirstea of Romania in straight sets in the quarterfinals. She’ll be up against another Romanian player, Simona Halep on the next stage of the tournament. This will be the second time that she’ll play against Halep. They had their first meeting last June at the final of the French Open. She beat Halep there after three sets to claim her first Grand Slam title.

Jelena Ostapenko

Ostapenko continues to play consistency well here in Beijing. She was able to beat Cirstea in the quarterfinals 6-4 6-4. Their match lasted only an hour and 24 minutes. Before this she easily passed through Shuai Peng of China in the third round. Peng was forced to retire during the first set of their match because of an injury. She also had a strong start here beating Samantha Stosur of Australia 6-3 7-5 in her first match.

Ostapenko’s confidence on court has really improved since winning the French Open early this year. She continues to play very aggressively and this is definitely still paying off a lot for her. She still haven’t dropped a set here in Beijing. Many are anticipating her upcoming rematch with Halep on the semis. Even though Ostapenko is in great form right now, many experts say she’ll have a hard time on her second meeting with Halep.

Simona Halep

World No.2 Simona Halep of Romania avenged her loss to Daria Kasatkina of Russia in Wuhan last week after she beat her in their quarterfinal clash. She easily won over the Russian 6-2 6-1 in a match which lasted only one hour and nine minutes. Before this match, she was able to score her first win over Maria Sharapova in the third round. She also dominated that match to win 6-2 6-2. Just like her match against Kasatkina their match also didn’t last long. It was over after just an hour and 12 minutes of play.

Now Halep will have a chance to avenge her loss to Jelena Ostapenko in the final of the French Open this year. She’ll be playing against the Latvian in the semis. Halep to Ostapenko there 4-6 6-4 6-3. It was a big loss for her because it was already her second time in the final. It also blew her bid to become world No.1 that time. Could she also get her revenge on Ostapenko here?

Our Predictions

Halep is seen as the favorite to win this match mainly because of her great form right now. Her wins over Sharapova and Kasatkina are really very impressive. However, I still think Ostapenko can put a stop to her on this match. Just like her, Ostapenko is also in top condition right now. I’m sure she’ll beat again Halep here.
