Madison Keys vs Daria Gavrilova – Tennis Betting Tips

World No. 10 Madison Keys of the US will play against Australia’s Daria Gavrilova on the first round of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome. This will be the third meeting between these two players. They played against each other twice last year during team USA’s tie with team Australia at the Fed Cup. Keys won both of those matches in straight sets. She’s again the favorite to win here against the Russian born Gavrilova who currently represents Australia in international tournaments.

Madison Keys

22 year old Madison Keys of the US had her breakthrough season last year. She reached the final here in Rome before losing to fellow American Serena Williams. This was also her best performance in a tournament so far. She beat two top ten players (Petra Kvitova and Garbine Muguruza) to her way to the final. After this, she won her second WTA singles title at the Aegon Classic in Birmingham. With this, she entered the top ten in the world rankings. She continued with a very strong form for the rest of the year and qualified for the Finals in Singapore.

But just like most of the other top players, Madison also encountered a serious injury problem after she reached the highest point in her career. She had a surgery on her left wrist late last year and had to start the season late this year. She had her first tournament in Indian Wells. Keys had a decent performance there and reached the third round before losing to Wozniacki. But things turned for the worse for her after that. She only advanced up to the second round in Miami and lost both of her opening matches in Charleston and Madrid afterwards. Could she get back into form here in Rome and reach the final again?

Daria Gavrilova

23 year old Daria Gavrilova of Australia is currently ranked No.27 in the world. But despite of her high place in the rankings and a good result here last year (she reached the third round), she still needed to play in the qualifiers. Fortunately, she did well to win those two qualifying matches and so she’s now in the main draw.

This will be Gavrilova’s fourth clay tournament this year. She only reached the second round in her first clay tournament in Charleston before losing to Daria Kasatkina, who is one of her close friends in real life. After this, she did better in Rabat and advanced up to the quarterfinals there before losing to Italy’s Sara Errani. Things didn’t go well again for Gavrilova a week after that in Madrid. She lost her opener to another young tennis player, Catherine Bellis of the US. Hopefully, she’ll do well again here after that poor performance in Spain.

Our Predictions

Keys isn’t just the favorite to win this match, but is also expected to reach the later stages of this tournament. Most tennis experts think she can tie her performance last year in this tournament this year. But I don’t think that’s possible because she’s obviously not in great physical condition right now. I’ll go with Daria Gavrilova in my betting tip here.
