Venus Williams vs Garbine Muguruza – Tennis Betting Tips

Garbine Muguruza of Spain survived a tough challenge from Julia Goerges of Germany in the third round of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia and beat her in straight sets 7-5 6-4. She’ll now play against Venus Williams of the US on the quarterfinals. This will be the fourth meeting between Garbine and Venus. The Spaniard has lost all of her past three meetings with the American. But despite this, some say she still has a good chance of winning over Venus. Let’s see if she can live up to this expectation.

Venus Williams

Venus Williams of the US won over Britain’s Johanna Konta in the third round to advance to the quarterfinals in Rome. The 36 year old American who is currently ranked No.12 in the world easily beat Konta in the first set 6-1. But the British was able to bounce back in the next set and won 3-6. However, Venus was able to take full control of the match again in the last set. She easily won it with a 6-1 scoreline again.

Venus is one of the few top players on the women’s side who is consistently performing well this season. She had her second final appearance at the Australian Open last January after 14 years. Unfortunately, she lost the title match to her sister Serena 6-4 6-4. After this, she was able to reach the quarterfinals in Indian Wells and the semifinals in Miami. She had a poor start for the clay season and lost the opening match in her first tournament in Charleston to Germany’s Laura Siegemund. This is just her second clay tournament this year and so far she’s been doing really well.

Garbine Muguruza

There are huge expectations from reigning French Open champion Garbine Muguruza of Spain for the clay season this year. Unfortunately, she had disappointing results on the first two clay tournaments she played. She lost both of her opening matches in Stuttgart and Madrid.

Here in Rome, Muguruza had a tough time in her first match against Jelena Ostapenko. She lost the first set of her opening match against the young Latvian player 2-6. Fortunately, she was able to bounce back on the next two sets and won them both 6-2 6-1. Her form improved on the next match against Goerges. Despite having a very difficult time playing against the German, she was still able to close their match in straight sets.

Our Predictions

I’ll choose to back Garbine Muguruza on this match even though she lost all of her past three matches with Venus Williams. Her form has definitely improved in that last match against Goerges. I think she’ll continue to get better as the French Open draws nearer. With this, I’m sure she’ll get her first win over Venus here.
